The Bristol / Bath Marketing Meetup is an informal, friendly place for the marketers of Bristol and Bath to meet, learn, and share knowledge with one another. Come in ‘listen’ not ‘sell’ mode 🙂

We’ll be back at the awesome Temple Studios for this one. We just want to get together, say hello, have a chat, and have a nice time.

The focus of the event will be very much focused on you meeting other people in a chilled out friendly space. We’ll chat over food and drink, listen to an inspirational speaker, chat some more, and go home buzzing with new contacts and new ideas.

Let’s have a lovely night in the company of some amazin’ people.

Speakers: Lynne Elvins, Creator of Design Serving Life; and Sonja Nisson, Author of Valuable Content Marketing
Topic: Design and Content Serving Life – Valuable principles for ethical, human-centred marketing

The world of marketing has never felt more conflicted.

Design and content can change things for the better. Words, ideas and creative choices shape behaviour, culture, and what people believe is possible. Yet in today’s fast-moving, AI powered, metrics-driven environment, many marketers and designers no longer feel good about how their craft is being used. Too often, meaning gives way to manipulation, complexity replaces clarity. And good people feel disconnected from the work they once believed in.

In this joint talk, Sonja Nisson (Valuable Content Marketing) and Lynne Elvins (Design Serving Life) invite marketers and designers to take a step back and return to the foundations that make work feel ethical, human and impactful.

Coming from different disciplines but a shared belief, Sonja and Lynne explore the core principles that underpin good content and good design. Work that connects rather than coerces, serves people rather than systems, and creates value without compromising integrity.

This session isn’t about adding more tactics or trends. It’s about reducing complexity, rebuilding trust in your own judgement, and reconnecting with why you do this work in the first place.

A grounded, inspiring session for anyone who still believes marketing can be a force for good and wants their work to reflect that belief.

You’ll explore:

– Why complexity and performance pressure often pull work away from meaning
– What ethical, human-centred practice looks like in real marketing decisions
– How content and design principles can guide better judgement, especially under pressure

By the end of the session, you’ll leave with:

– Greater clarity about the kind of work you want to stand behind
– Practical principles you can return to when pace and metrics take over
– Renewed confidence in your craft and your own judgement

This session is especially for you if:

– You believe marketing can be a force for good but feel tension in how it’s practised
– You want to reduce complexity without lowering ambition
– You care about doing work that feels human, meaningful and right
