TMM IRL: Celebrity brands – boom or bust in the UK?

The Peterborough Marketing Meetup is an informal, friendly place for the marketers of Peterborough and surroundings to meet, learn, and share knowledge with one another. Come in ‘listen’ not ‘sell’ mode 🙂

We’re meeting in Peterborough back at the lovely Bull Hotel, and we just want to get together, say hello, have a chat, and have a nice time.

Think of this as a community event, where the focus is very much on you meeting other people in a chilled out friendly space. We’ll chat over food and drink, listen to an inspirational speaker or two, chat some more, and go home buzzing with new contacts and new ideas.

Let’s have a lovely night in the company of some amazin’ people.

Speaker: Philip Ainsworth, Founder at BEVAMO
Topic: Celebrity brands – boom or bust in the UK?

Everyone wants a 1billion dollar exit. George Clooney did it with Casamigos so why can’t I? ‘I have a bigger following and a strong brand image’ so perhaps we can sell for more? A question I often get asked.

I will talk about how they could and most likely why they can’t. Whilst many of the budgets and activations may seem beyond the reach of many in the room, I will ensure the relevancy and principles are those that can be scaled up and scaled down. It will provide a unique insight into the behaviour of the UK consumer and their relationship with celebrities that can be applied across all fields, including B2B.

The session will be a highly visual session to better understand the dynamics of Celebrity owned brands with a checklist of what to look out for and not.

• How does it all start?
• Financials and how they can/can’t work
• Authenticity and relevancy
• Creative process
• Launch and support
• Everyone needs a buyer

Live examples from working with Dutch Barn Vodka (Ricky Gervais), Crossfire Hurricane (The Rolling Stones) and consulting work on 818 Tequila (Kendall Jenner), Casamigos (George Clooney), Aviation Gin (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolfie’s Whisky (Rod Stewart). There may be another few spattered in for good measure from smaller ‘celebs’ like Zander Fagerson.

The format of the night:

6:00 pm – doors open – drinks, networking, and smiles
6:30 pm – introduction and talks begin
7:15 pm – talks finish, networking, listening, saying hello, and positively lovely people
8:00 pm – end of the night – you leave with new contacts and fresh ideas

Free Parking!

The Bull Hotel car park is located at the back of the hotel, The entrance is accessible from Broadway and then turn onto Fitzwilliam Street.

The best post code to use is PE1 1RX. The googlemaps link is right here, and a photo of the car park entrance can be found on the eventbrite page here 😊

Sometimes the postcode can bring you the other side of Fitzwilliam Street but there is a barrier in the middle of the road and you will not be able to get to the entrance of the car park from here.

Once at the entrance you will need to take a ticket from the machine to open the barrier. Please keep hold of this ticket, and on departure head to reception to collect a car park voucher 😊

And finally…

This is a donation ticketed event. Entry price is yours to choose, from £5 to £50 (the average community members choose to pay £11.38 🙂

We of course understand that these are tough times, so if you are experiencing financial hardship and cannot afford the minimum donation amount, please reach out to el@themarketingmeetup.com and we’ll find a ticket for you (provided capacity hasn’t already been reached!) 🙂

Please let your marketing friends and colleagues know about this group too, we hope to build it into a great resource for the community over the coming months and years. Attendance will be taken at this event. If you sign up but don’t show up, this has a knock on effect on event arrangements. If it happens 3 times, you’re outta here! This is simply a measure to allow appropriate respect to the organisers, speakers, sponsors, and your fellow community members 🙂
