Summary of Key Points from Emma Harris’s Conversation:

Core Themes:

  1. Slowing Down:
    • The session highlighted the importance of slowing down amidst life’s pressures, recognising that productivity and fulfilment can coexist without constant busyness.
  2. Emma’s Backstory:
    • Emma shared her near-death experience (cardiac arrest) that reshaped her perspective on life and work. She reflected on overworking and neglecting herself, which led to her initiative “Slow the F*** Down.”
  3. Key Lessons:
    • Making Better Choices: Focus decisions on reality, not imagined fears or societal expectations. Evaluate choices based on evidence, not unconscious negative thoughts.
    • Manifestation: Use visualisation to align your unconscious mind with goals. Treat manifestation as intentional planning rather than mere wishful thinking.
    • Looking After Yourself: Prioritise physical health (hydration, sleep, nutrition), emotional health (managing thoughts), and mental health to improve performance and life satisfaction.
  4. Practical Tips:
    • Planning and Organisation:
      • Plan your week intentionally, including personal time, rest, and family commitments.
      • Write down what to wear each day to reduce decision fatigue.
    • Self-Care:
      • Exercise regularly, even for 15 minutes.
      • Hydrate well—small adjustments can improve performance significantly.
      • Use breathing techniques (e.g., box breathing) to stay calm and present.
    • Mindfulness:
      • Interrupt negative thought patterns by recognising when they are imagined, not real.
      • Live in the moment instead of dwelling on past mistakes or future fears.
  5. Manifestation in Practice:
    • Focus on how you want to feel in the future rather than attaching yourself to specific outcomes.
    • Create vision boards or write detailed, sensory-rich scenarios of future success to train your mind to work toward those goals.
  6. Managing Comparison and Fear:
    • Avoid comparing yourself to others; instead, focus on what “better” looks like for you.
    • Acknowledge “FOO” (fear of others’ opinions) as imagined and unproductive.

Memorable Quotes and Analogies:

  • “We spend most of our lives in a past we can’t change and a future that hasn’t happened yet.”
  • “Be happy now. Stop waiting for ‘when I get this, I’ll be happy.’”
  • “I was a hairdresser with bad hair—I wasn’t living my own advice.”

Audience Engagement:

  • Emma’s approach resonated with the audience, reflected in heartfelt comments and questions.
  • Topics like self-worth, overcoming overwhelm, and trusting the process struck a chord.

Practical Exercises:

  • Morning reflection: Decide how you want to feel by day’s end.
  • Vision board creation: Include elements across home, work, health, finances, and relationships.
  • Scale your performance: Regularly assess where you are (1–10) in physical, emotional, and technical performance, and identify small steps to improve.

Emma’s session reinforced that “slowing down” doesn’t mean doing less but doing things better, with clarity, intention, and self-care.

1:02most authentic uh compassionate uh kind people I’ve ever met uh and that’s Emma

1:07Harris uh so Emma is uh works at a place called glow London works at started uh

1:14owns runs uh glow London um but has a storied marketing uh past uh including

1:22sort of leading the sales and marketing over uh uh Euro is it Euro tunnel or EUR

1:28star Eur star sorry Emma um and uh it’s just absolutely fantastic Emma’s walked

1:35in our shoes um and so today we’re going to be speaking about something more well-being but today she comes from a

1:41place of of having walked in our shoes too which I think means so much as Rachel says you’re a star too uh in the

1:49chat so Rachel is way more smooth uh than I am so um today before we get started uh so

1:58sorry let me do the intro thing today is all about slowing down which is what I should be doing with this introduction

2:03frankly because I stumbled over my words um and that’s quite a counterintuitive

2:08thing for a lot of us in the time where we’re being told to speed up um I’ve

2:14seen the session before and it’s a bit of a lifechanger so I hope it makes a dent in your world too uh if you have

3:18with all that said uh Now’s the Time uh to get going with today’s session so Emma thank you for taking the time you

3:26are having me well you’re a you’re a an important figure in my life so I

3:32appreciate it um but you’ve been on a bit of a journey for these past few years uh so can you tell us why you

3:38started asking folks to slow the F down

3:43yeah I’m not gonna say F but anyone who’s ever seen me or my

3:49sister from another Mr chery and shackle speak you’ll know that that there are some profanities but um so yes I walked

3:56in your shoes I um I was in marketing for a long time and jumped out had a bit

4:03of a squiggly time decided to run my own thing and I set up glow in

4:082019 um my big frustration as a client was always that the brand needed to be

4:13much more than just the coloring in what i’ call you know the external very important external rapper and there was

4:19so much energy that I spent working with HR and marketing HR and customer

4:25services and products and customer experience to bring it all to life um yet there was no agencies sort of

4:31helping to to deliver on that So eventually I set up glow um and we are

4:37all about doing both brand and culture Inside Out brand and so I’ve been running BR I’ve been running glow for

4:45well it’s was 2022 we’ll go back to that’s when slow the fu down started so it’s May 22 so I’ve been running glow

4:52for about three years uh I was also um you and I know each other through the wonderful marketing Academy very much

4:58marketing Academy family and I’m a trustee of the foundation um at the time I was also on the exec team of a social

5:05media business called uh social element who are brilliant and very proud to have been part of that journey I also have

5:11four children I know you have two Joe so that you know you only have two hands so having four kids is kind of Bonkers and

5:18they ranged between the ages of we’re going back to 22 they were between the ages of five and 21 so I I always I’ve

5:25got sex Dr drugs and nursery rhymes all going on in the same house it’s like a 24 apparation it’s like take the bottle

5:31off that one take the weed off that one um all going on um I’m married to an

5:37actor guy called Danny sapani uh so we have a crazy life he’s away a lot and he

5:43then he’s at home a lot um but you know there’s no no such thing as a dull life

5:48at the sapis and I was you know doing what we all do which is running a million miles

5:54an hour uh and um and I was in New York I’ve been in Chicago the week before

6:00with wpp and I was in New York with social element in the board and I was in uh uh it was the last day I’d been had a

6:07busy week and you know I’m someone who’s always taken my health very seriously to the extent that on the Monday there’s

6:13pictures of me running by the Hudson on the Wednesday I’m running by Ground Zero the morning this incident happened it

6:20was a Friday morning I actually did a a hit class in my bedroom um I don’t remember doing it but uh the lovely Lyn

6:27Frost who run social elment said she knocked on my door and was wearing nothing but a pair of pants and a sports bra so that must have happened and um

6:35and we we packed up to leave and we went for brunch and we were about to go and get on the plane I stood up to go to the

6:42L and collapsed and had a cardiac arrest and cardiac arrest is lethal I mean 91%

6:48of people that have a cardiac arrest it’s what happened to Christian Ericson in the Euros it’s not you know a heart attack can be very serious but it won’t

6:54necessarily kill you but if you have a cardiac arrest from a heart attack then you’re most likely to die particularly

6:59outside of a hospital and I was incredibly lucky there were three people in that restaurant so Lynn and tomorrow

7:06Littleton the wonderful tomorrow Littleton started shouting can someone help us and three people in that

7:11restaurant were doctors and saved my life and had I made it to the L I wouldn’t be here because obviously I was

7:19you know I I would have got into the L and you know they would have happened in the L if it had happened on the plane if

7:25it had happened that morning in my room while I was doing my exactly heated hit class whatever it was um and when I woke

7:32up in ICU and eventually worked out what had happened to me and they still don’t really know what had happened what why

7:39it happened it was one of my ventricles in my heart they know physically what had happened but they don’t know why and

7:45it’s you know my cardiologist says it was a glitch probably B on by stress um

7:50but it’s like you know sometimes your your laptop goes a bit bunkers and you get a bouncy ball for ages and you

7:55reboot and it’s all gone away and it’s a bit like that sometimes the bo does stupid things I was just very lucky that

8:02it didn’t end my life I nearly left a 5-year-old without a mom and when I woke up in ICU and eventually worked out what had

8:09happened stupidly they left me with my phone and I all I could think of as I was lying there is what the have

8:15I’ve been doing with my life and you know why have I been running around like

8:21a blue ass fly and making stupid decisions that don’t put myself first or my family first um and pushing my myself

8:29to the limits which I know a lot of people listening will be thinking this is me and I shared this thought on L Tim

8:36because you know everyone I know drinks from a fire hose most of the time you know we’re just on this sort of running

8:41this Perpetual this week this day this month this quarter this year then we

8:46rinse and repeat and start again and every year we say do it differently and we end up you know just overwhelmed and

8:53everyone I know is is like that and I just put this post on link him with a picture really unattractive picture you

8:59might remember it so oxygen up me nose lying in bed no Lippy and um just saying

9:05you know I I want to share what’s happened to me and I want you all to slow the down and I to be honest

9:12Joe I don’t remember writing it but it completely changed my life because for that was the moment and I’ve been doing

9:18a lot of speaking as you know that’s how you met me and I am an NLP practitioner I am a human performance expert I’m part

9:24of a group called Planet K2 who we know we studied 30 years in Elite and

9:29understood performance and Appliance business um I know this stuff I know how

9:35to live a good life and I was a hairdresser with bad hair Helen remembers the post um I was a

9:41hairdresser with bad hair I wasn’t doing myself and I felt once that reaction now Sherl infom me and said you have broken

9:48LinkedIn so this post got shared 3,000 times it got n million views and there

9:54were there 90,000 reactions there’s about 9,000 comments I haven’t read most of them because they’re not like get

10:00well sorry this happened they’re paragraphs of people pouring their hearts out one dude and I’ve told this

10:07story so many times talking about the fact that he worked in advertising was on his way to a pitch knew he was having

10:12a heart attack went through with the pitch and asked the suit on the way out taken to her knee it’s like what the

10:18and so that’s the point where I thought okay I’ve got to get this message out there I’ve got to help

10:24people and I’ve got a story that will wake people up and that’s how it all started very long answer to a short short question

10:30sorry it’s a very it’s a very good answer though so thank you Emma you know

10:36and we got uh Helen in the chat as you say s saying she remembers the post well

10:41um and you know as you say 990,000 uh engagements reactions

10:47which uh doesn’t just happen unless people resonate and feel the same things

10:54right and so so when you say statements such as uh I know there will be people watching on the call feeling that way

11:01and statements like we’re drinking from the fire hose you know I think the word resonates uh sort

11:07of comes to mind really so um yeah I appreciate you giving a long answer um

11:13so what did you what did you learn Emma what was what were the the takeaways

11:19which I hesitate to do sometimes because not everything needs a takeaway but there was actually some really useful things oh no that that’s what slow the

11:25down is that is what I that is absolutely the best question because you know what did I learn was three main

11:30things and I learned a lot um I L maybe only drink one coffee a

11:37day my I was like up in the morning coffee coffee coffee espresso Martini um

11:43no I learned there’s three main things that I talk about under the pillar of slow the down one is about making

11:50better choices one is about the power of manifestation and manifestation gets a

11:56really bad rrap but I’ll explain the signs behind that and the fact that it’s you know about manifest don’t stress

12:02because it removes a lot of stress and the third one is look after yourself which sounds really obvious um the make

12:09better choices is all about the fact that you know this madness this hamster wheel we’re really on often is the

12:15pressure we put ourselves under and that’s the big thing that’s changed for me because we live on sort of fear fomo

12:24you know Foo is my new favorite one so where fomo is fear of missing out Foo is fear of other people’s op iion nice you

12:31know if there was a a sort of a map of my life before I got ill it’s all about

12:38work you know this sort of quest I’ve been on since I was a Youngster you know I RI my way through EUR star every year

12:44I was like right I’ve sorted the call center out now what are you going to give me you know I led the change we moved to some Pancras right okay now I’m

12:51off and they were like here take on the entire marketing function globally and it’s like more more more more because in

12:56some weird messed up way we think when I get that job I’ll be happy when I get

13:03that salary I’ll be happy when I’m the sea Suite I’ll be happy when I’m I don’t know married I’ll be happy God

13:09[Laughter] that’s um I’m very happy marri say

13:15challeng whoever men and women should live together was mad didn’t mean to yeah you know it’s

13:20that thing you know when I’m thin I’ll be happy it’s we put our happiness in front of ourselves and that was the big thing I woke up in hos and went I need

13:27to be happy now because from now on every minute I live is a blessing right so why can why am I wasting all this

13:34energy going well when I do that I’ll be happy be happy now and those that the choices that that that we make because

13:4295% of our behavior is unconscious this is where we start to get into the science right 95% of behavior is unconscious and that unconscious mind

13:48when I met you I was talking to you about this you know that we we we get a

13:53feeling and then we create the behavior that comes from it but the feelings of

13:59of an imaginary story we make stuff up our our unconscious mind doesn’t know the difference between a thought and

14:05reality and we are pre-wired to think negative because from the andal days when a noise in the bush might be a lion

14:13you know not a rabbit we have to be prewired to think negatively and what

14:19make better choices about is about interrupting that because at 4:00 in the morning when we’re lying awake and we’re

14:24completely overwhelmed and we’re thinking everything’s and C people are in charge so we’re not going to go

14:30into that today but you know the world’s going to end and the kids are going to die and everything’s and oh by the

14:36way I’m a piece of all that stuff in our heads it’s just our thoughts and the minute you go that’s

14:44just a thought it’s like putting a pin in a balloon it completely loses its traction on you so saying to people are

14:51you reacting to something based on reality or a feeling if you’ve seen inside out yeah yeah yeah me and and

14:59number two and number two well number two for me is like the genius because if anyone hasn’t seen it it’s about the

15:04personification of emotions in a young girl’s head and in number two anxiety gets control of her panel and it’s got

15:11all these little bits of imagination writing hundreds of worst case scenarios and then passing them up to anxiety to

15:17create fear and that’s how we live and yet we make behave we behave like that

15:23so it’s just saying you know the way disassociate from your thoughts just go is that a thought or reality make

15:28decision is based on evidence you know I’ve got to go to that meeting you know you create the fear I’ve got to go and

15:35actually why what’s happening in my head I’ve created a picture of me not being in the meeting and everything going to

15:41and me getting in trouble me losing my job losing my house dying alone on the streets now that sounds Bonkers but

15:47that’s what our unconscious mind is doing and it’s about B stopped what evidence is there that if I don’t go to

15:53that meeting it’s all going to go none or that if I don’t go to that party I’m G to ruin the birthday girl no no

15:59there’s a hundred people she’s gonna have a great time whether you’re there or not so it’s just going why am I doing

16:05things what evidences there and grounding yourself in a present I don’t know if you’ve ever read art tolds Paran

16:12now no I haven’t know it’s brilliant and it I mean it’s not all of it I love

16:18because it’s a bit there are bits of it which is like is a great book yes Abby it’s it’s brilliant there were bits of

16:23it’s like fill your body with light I’m not necessarily into that but he talks about how our unconscious minds work

16:28work and that we spend most of our lives in a past we can’t change and worrying about a future that hasn’t happened yet

16:35and when you get into the now being really present you are powerful because

16:41now it’s 4:00 in the morning actually all that’s happening is he’s snoring the dogs on my feet the the book is called

16:48The Power of Now and and that’s what EV No One’s Gonna everything’s okay and you

16:54that’s where you really calm yourself down and you make decisions based on reality and that’s where you get the

17:00power a lot of this running everyone is doing is because there’s a lot of fear in the world at the moment because the

17:05people at the top want us to be afraid because that gives them power so you know and and there’s something really

17:11stressful going on this energy about am I gonna lose my job there’s a lot of you know is AI going to take over but

17:19actually standing right here in the present what’s going on we’re all okay and most of us aren’t operating on

17:26babies you know we’re selling so that’s the first thing make sure the

17:32decisions you’re making the choices you’re making are based on evidence not imagination um and then the second thing

17:39I’m con I’m just talking at you but say em should I prompt it so it feels like I’m I’m I’m go on then ask me about

17:45manifest don’t stress Joe so Emma could you tell me about manifest don’t stress

17:51please um well I mean if you can get to a place of power of making decisions based in the now the next thing to to

17:58think about is using your unconscious mind so that 95% of behavior that’s happening unconsciously is being driven

18:05by your beliefs because your belief drives your feelings feelings drives Behavior Behavior creates outcome

18:10outcomes reinforces belief so for example I’m going to speak this afternoon when I get off this call if I

18:18believe I’m going to smash it I will feel confident I will be brilliant I will get a standing evation I will then

18:25be reinforced that I’m brilliant right and I’ll tell them that by the way during the they um but similarly it can

18:35work the other way so you can believe you’re going to up feel

18:41nervous behavior and then you’re reinforcing your belief so setting your

18:46belief is where you get your power and often we go into situations trying really hard to control it I’ve got to

18:53remember to say this I’ve got to remember to do this I must you know or I’ve got to write my notes and have my

18:59notes and what you’re doing is you’re trying to run the engine from the 5% yeah and 95% is doing the work so get

19:08the belief completely buried into your unconscious mind and you do

19:14that by doing visualization setting out this is what athletes do I mean Sally

19:20gunnel you’re probably too young to remember you know I know I was a pit there we go well Sally will’ll tell

19:28you that she doesn’t she didn’t know she won her first gold medal um she was an

19:34Olympic herdler that she didn’t know whether she’d actually won it or whether it was another visualization because she’d practiced it

19:41so many times yet in business we don’t use this muscle and we can rather than

19:46going into a meeting worrying about the outcome go to the end and EnV envisage texting or messaging or writing to

19:52someone going absolutely smash that and what you’re doing is like putting a postcode in your sat now so your

19:59unconscious mind doesn’t know time in the same ways it doesn’t know the difference between a thought and reality

20:04so by visualizing that what you’re doing is creating a visual memory that goes into your hippocampus the same way as a

20:11actual memory does and your unconscious mind will then go out and get that future that’s why this works that’s

20:17why people talk about manifestation as a something you can wish or hope for but I honestly believe

20:24you can have anything you want in life there are two conditions with which that is true and the first one is knowing

20:30what you want and often that’s the heart bit that’s another webinar and then the second one is knowing you can have it

20:35and visualization and setting your outcomes every year I do a thing in January where I do go to the following

20:41January you’ve done this and write the one day but do it in the present tense

20:47so one day you just go I am wait it’s January the 12th and I am waking up at

20:536:30 because I’m doing yoga which I now do for my yoga studio downstairs I built

20:58over the summer and today I have three workshops with my new client you know whatever it is because when you’re here

21:06going how do I want the year to look what do I want to achieve it feels overwhelming and you’re doing that thing

21:11where you’re putting it in front of you whereas when you go to a day in the future it’s like putting those satav

21:19coordinates in and your programing your unconscious mind this is the life I want I do this all the time and I do it with

21:25people I work with and I had a message from someone the other day wonder if they’re on the call actually saying oh

21:30my God I just listened to the vision session we did in August and like so much of it has come true like so

21:37terrifying about how much of it’s come true and that happens all the time so that’s that’s what manifestation not hoping wishing I’m not saying I wish I’m

21:45wishing I’m manifesting an Italian with a big helicopter it’s not that not that’s what I want

21:50anyway thank you but um it’s really focusing the science and getting it

21:57right practicing I in the smallest of ways like even if I’m going I’m driving

22:02somewhere I picture the parking space and that sounds crazy but it works um can I just jump in there Emma

22:09because like yeah please do if we were to so like this feels like such a a

22:15lovely prompt you know for folks uh on on today’s session as a a very simple

22:22thing which they can do today uh which could have a a really beautiful outcome

22:30um would you be able to just spend like a minute just sort of describing what

22:36these statements might look like on a on a sort of semi- practical level so folks could sort of like go away today and

22:42sort of say you know what after this webinar I’m going to write a statement that looks like

22:48XYZ what what would uh I don’t I don’t use good bad language because that doesn’t feel appropriate but what would

22:55be uh some statements which have worked for you in the past I think it’s less about statements it’s

23:01more about what you cover so I would say the the five things to cover is

23:08home work Health finance and

23:16relationships so in doing that description of the day so I’m waking up I’m going down to my new yoga studio I’m

23:22never going to be ex even past my new sofa listen one year it was that I

23:27turned the bathroom lights on and all the all the bulbs worked nice and that sounds crazy but there was something

23:33about the fact that I only had like two out of 10 bulbs in my bathroom working was connecting with my feelings of

23:38self-loathing right and so that was part of my vision so you put anything you want in that you want to change it might

23:45be a new place or it might be changes in your new in your existing place so then it’s so then you talk about and today

23:52what’s happening at work you talk about your health so you put in what your exercise is or how your feel heing and

23:59then you your finances at some point just write down have a look at your banking app and write some numbers down

24:05and then relationship might be that the relationship you’re in is great I was talk about my kids and my manifestation

24:11what’s happening to them remembering this is about you so there’s no point putting load because this is you

24:16programming your unconscious mind as powerful as you are you can’t control

24:22other people’s unconscious mind you can influence them though I know my belief

24:27in my kids things that are going to happen will unconsciously influence them you can’t change other people you’re going to

24:32change yourself in your response to them so put putting all that into a picture use as many senses as you can so talk

24:41about what you’re seeing what you’re hearing you know I walk into the office and I’m hearing chatter um I’m seeing

24:48the faces of my team look at me and I see the respect and the value that I’m adding in their response to me being

24:55arriving uh you know pack in as much as you can richness in the day and then

25:01when you end just put three words that describe how you feel on January the

25:0712th whatever it is um you know sexy fulfilled happy excited confident

25:14whatever it is and write and then do a vision board that goes with it so my

25:20vision board I did it last Friday I had the girls over and we had stack of magazines and B boards and we stuck them

25:27all on so you can either do it like that or just really go on Google and find

25:32loads of images you know here’s the fire pit I want in the garden and here’s a

25:38picture of some you know a gym whatever it is put it all in there honestly this works I I had a picture of a house in my

25:46vision board in 2017 and I bought a house four years later and this house looks so remarkably like it and it’s not

25:53magic it’s just because that was my lens what I really appreciate about this

25:59Emma and I don’t think it’s necessarily this the specific angle I’m I’m sort of

26:04transplanting this into my world a little bit but I I I think it is part of the methodology

26:10here as well but like I don’t notice when things go well really I will notice

26:15when things go terribly um or badly or even below averagely but like if I

26:23achieve something or something goes well or you know blah blah blah um because I

26:28I I haven’t really set a goal or I haven’t sort of visioned you know put a vision to this before these are just

26:34things that happen and they happen to be positive then I don’t necessarily slow

26:39down to notice them and it strikes me with the manifestation moment um

26:47that you you probably walk into a scenario and you go oh wait it’s

26:54happening you know it’s happening I think the second thing to add here is that I did do this exercise with the

27:00marketing Academy way back when and I remember writing down so this was 2020 I

27:05remember writing down that I was going to walk into my uh flagstone kitchen uh flagstone uh what’s the the big stones

27:11that sit on the on the on on on your on your floor and there’ll be like a hear and and all that sort of stuff and

27:19what’s really funny is uh I didn’t I didn’t get any of that you know five

27:25years later I’m living a very different life to the one that I manifested in in that

27:31moment but I’ve kind of realized that it’s also a benchmark of progression for me so in the same way as you sort of

27:37speak about two out of 10 light bulbs on in in in the bathroom you know I kind of

27:42look at my life and go oh I don’t want that you know I’m actually really really happy with what I have now and and um I

27:50just you know having gone through the exercise and reflect on it five years later a it’s so so useful but then also

27:56B to not get what you manifest but still be happy with it I think is a is just an

28:01interesting angle on it as well I agree and because gratitude is such an important part of slowing the down

28:08I bet at some point you’ll have that kit though that’s just maybe it’s your retirement home yeah yeah yeah I bet

28:15because you program your unconscious mind in 2017 the same one has had that house that you know I didn’t buy for

28:21four years later I had a book so I had a book at the time it was called smash dip

28:27because that was what my old Kino was and and I I’m now writing the book I’ve

28:34got a book agent I mean the story of that is amazing So Adam Morgan the legend that’s Adam Morgan has been a

28:39mentor of mine for years in fact he was a client for a bit because I helped them eat big fish with their positioning one

28:45of my claims to fame that they couldn’t do it themselves because you can’t see

28:50inside the jar from the lake when you’re you know you can’t see the label from inside the job that’s it anyway um and

28:55Adam said to me I’ve been saying I’ve got to get this book out I’ve just want to reach more people he said you need a

29:01book agent you need Curtis Brown and a week after that one week

29:07later I was I was doing a a keyote and it was one of those random ones it was a load of property Executives it was

29:14unbelievable I I stood by a tail I didn’t have a microphone it was one of those what here they didn’t they they

29:22would said they’ give some money to the foundation so I had to say yes yeah anyway it was one of those random things

29:27and at the end this guy came up to him and you’re amazing and my wife’s asked if she could meet you and she’s the head

29:32of books for Curtis Brown amazing and I I came out and I phoned Adam I said you

29:37it was one week later said I said you’ll never guess and so now I’ve I’ve got the

29:43book agent so you know it’s taken seven years is it seven eight

29:48years so I think you’re right I think along the way noticing the good stuff

29:54you have and also weed do it so someone ask what’s the time frame I think a year and really good one but your unconscious

30:00mind will tell you what feels right could be six months could be two years um could be 10 years whatever you want

30:06so I think I think a year one feels good love that thank you so much um I I can

30:11see that there’s three open questions in the Q&A so um what I’m going to do is

30:16ask Emma about the last element um and then we’re going to circle back to the Q&A so uh folks just encourage you if

30:24you got any questions that have come up so far uh in your brain uh be sure to get them in the Q&A feature if you like

30:30any of the questions that are in the Q&A presently that you’d like me to prioritize uh give them a thumbs up uh

30:35that’s found in just the toolbar uh down below um so so far we’re spoken about

30:40making better choices and manifest don’t stress um the third element that you

30:45spoke to Emma um I’ve got down here prioritized people but I I think you use different language prioritize people

30:53that’s the one that’s the um that’s the slow the F down to lead

30:58ni you might yeah so that’s when I’m talking to leaders about how to create

31:03the focus around making better choices and to use manifestation from a team point of view because we do this with

31:10groups we get leadership teams to go to a future point of success and where

31:16they’ve actually achieved their Ambitions we could do this exercise another time you and I to talk about M

31:21meet up and where it’s going but and and you create the picture and then you go back to today and unpick what’s holding

31:28you back and then build the bridge to get there so that’s a different one but prioritize you nice or look after you is

31:35that is the one when you’re talking individuals and that is just about the choices again the choices that we make

31:41so that sort of athlete at work theory that I talked about before that’s part

31:47of the amazing Planet K2 you know as business people we tend to let our

31:52calendars and our Diaries lead us right wake up in the morning what have I got what’s on my to-do list and what meetings have I got

31:58and you get to the end of the day ticks off some to-do list stuff not all of it because we’ll all die with the to-do

32:03list that haven’t finished and uh got through my calendar and that’s it great day now an athletes

32:10approach to their performance is so much more than that because if you sort of P

32:16had imagine a pie they call it the performance pie a sort of wheel you know

32:21that sort of what we call tactical is just a small segment so they for them that’s training yes I have to train but

32:28if I just got up and trained every day and did the same thing I’m never going to get better so obviously physical

32:34performance is a massive part of what they do but it is for us as well and we forget that and that we don’t think of

32:41sleep and hydration and nutrition being part of our performance at work so when

32:47we’re drinking from a fire hose and staying up till 3: in the morning living

32:52on coffee and eating pizza you know at some point we’re going to end our body

32:57will keep the score and so you know performance levels we’re 70% water so

33:03our performance levels are influenced by just 5% change in hydration and yet we don’t think about

33:09that so we should have a cup of water every 20 minutes I’m not doing very well because I’m talking so much but you know

33:16always having water around and every time you have a Diet Coke you’re taking it’s a diuretic so you’re actually

33:22removing water from your system so even the smallest things electrolytes there we go all that sort of thinking about

33:30what I’m putting in my body not for for vanity more for sanity and for

33:35performance so you know food right so I’m really impressed I’m actually by the way this is not my

33:42house was or a fake background I’m in a hotel in Brian because I’m about to speak at an event and I was really

33:49impressed so the snacks look there’s dried fruit and protein balls you know

33:54you go to most events and it’s just all sugar and F and high carb and you know beige food if

34:00you if you’ve got something really important to do and an hour before you’re eating massive sugar with high

34:06carbs then your energy your sugar level’s going to drop your performance going to drop so it’s just thinking about all this is sleep sleep I mean God

34:15we sacrific sleep for work when messed and that’s mad you expect on 4 hour sleep to get up and perform because

34:20you’ve been worrying about your deck forget the deck this is the thing that is going to perform and then emotion so

34:28we’ve talked about you know the fact that our thoughts and feelings are driven by our belief and our imaginations and being really really

34:35clear what are my emotions how am I choosing them lovely exercise this is a habit stack it’s my new trendy thing

34:43nice every morning we brush our teeth well most of us do um just thinking about how do I want to feel today and

34:49double that up with manifestation how do I want to feel when I brush my teeth again tonight how do my how’s my day

34:55going to gone so when I brush my teeth tonight I know I stayed really calm I stayed really present and I absolutely

35:02smashed the day so thinking about we can choose our emotions where where as opposed to kind of running into work and

35:09just feeling things we can control that and I’m not I am not in any way miss you

35:15know negating the struggles of mental health and that is not me being dismissive of it it’s just on an average

35:22day we can choose a lot of things and we’ve talked about you know mental going into a meeting

35:28focusing on an outcome going into a situation focusing the outcome rather than the stress of I’ve got to say this

35:33I’ve got to say that relax I’m GNA Smash It and I’m gonna text Joe when I come out and tell him I smashed it and then

35:40the other one is technical you know athletes don’t just get up every day and train do the same thing they’re like

35:46right they have specific skills yet you know as how much are we really investing

35:52and I’m not strong going on an AI course although that would be useful because I’m a woman of a certain age who gets

35:57very confused by these things but you know listening to podcasts reading books

36:03I’m always saying to my kids you know investing in in in in finding out of

36:09people’s stories from other Industries I’m very lucky I get exposed to a lot of stuff in film but so yeah it’s that

36:15holistic approach to making choices and often we feel well I don’t get time to

36:20exercise I I I need coffee because I’m tired and that is bollocks sorry another

36:26swear word so have a think about your own performance on a scale of 1 to

36:3310 where are you on a scale for example you take physical where am I on a scale of 1 to 10 on physical 30 minutes you

36:42know walking even if I just have 15 minutes in the morning this morning I did The

36:47Five Tibetans if you don’t know what they are look them up I did The Five Tibetans and a quick weight to workout

36:52that’s enough and the difference in my behavior my feeling about everything is

36:57so transformed and that is a choice so on a scale of 1 to 10 where are you

37:03where do you want to get to and what are you going to do differently and making

37:08those choices physical emotional

37:16me and having that really inspirational space that’s really really important

37:23I’ve just had a message internet’s unstable am I right yeah your sound disappeared for a second but you’re back

37:29so all right okay controlling the controllables right so the things I can control is making sure I’ve got good

37:36internet making sure I’m comfortable making you know all those sort an athlete wouldn’t go I reckon I’m gonna

37:42get a gold medal but my trainers are really uncomfortable you know whereas we kind of accept stuff that’s about saying

37:49what’s within the St of my control what can I do differently and making those better choices which is bloody hard but

37:56as a muscle you know that that that sort of learning to control controllable uh the acceptance of that kind of stuff it

38:03it takes time it’s it’s something you learn unlearn relearn unlearn again etc

38:09etc um can I challenge your language rather than say hard can we say it’s not easy it’s not

38:16easy it’s not easy it’s m saying it’s bloody hard that puts such a full stop

38:21on it it’s not easy and just even writing that down where am I on that

38:26scared of one 10 what okay I’m at a three I want to get to a six right what

38:32does three look like what does six like what can I do differently and this isn’t what if I had a magic wand and no kids

38:39and a million pounds this is what can I do differently there is always choice

38:46and I just want to um pick up on a very specific element and only because you haven’t used the specific word yet which

38:53is comparison because you’ve you’ve said what can I do do and so at the beginning

38:59of the year um to relate an experience then I was comparing myself to my mate

39:06Max who’s a ultramarathon runner um who is uh smashing life you know in in so

39:14many ways and right now uh on the physical sort of one to 10 you know I’m

39:20pretty low for me know I’m not feeling great and I was comparing myself to Max

39:25and you know I was like he’s a 10 out of 10 and and I feel like I’m a three or whatever and I realized that I don’t

39:31need to get to 10 I just need to get to four um to to to the one of the points that you’ve made here Emma and so for me

39:39that just looks like reinstating 15 minutes of exercise each day you know very much in a similar fashion to what

39:44you speaking about with your way to work out and stuff like that it’s not about

39:49you know I’m saying things you’ve said here but it’s not about needing to be Max uh you know it’s about needing to be

39:56Joe and feeling okay with that 100% 100% because once you if you if

40:03it’s overwhelming and this is what I mean the pressure we put on ourselves it doesn’t exist so we start to go I’ve got to do you know I’ve got to be an

40:10ultramarathon Runner and you never get there so you do nothing you get paralysis y being really gentle on

40:15yourself someone said what’s the four look like the four is whatever you want it to look like if you’re at a one what

40:22does that look like what does two look like this is all relative you know I’m

40:2752 years old and you know not a size zero so I’m not going to be able to do a lot of things other but it’s within the

40:33Realms of my control I’ve got a dog I walk a lot and that’s great and it’s just about getting I’m just IED

40:40brilliantly this morning that I did the five to Veterans and then you know a 20 minute weights workout really Chu with

40:46myself I did step UPS I didn’t really want to but maybe I won’t want to do them and I won’t that’s okay too because

40:53all the only judge that matters is your own absolutely be be gentle with

40:58yourself that’s so good thank you I just want to come one of the things I said before about Foo I I just want to say a

41:06little bit more about that as well it’s a bit related to comparison so that fear of other people’s opinion

41:12thing you know because part of that wanting to compare yourself is other

41:17people judging you and you’re imagining that other people judgeing me so the why the reason Foo is so insane

41:24is because not only are your own thoughts and feelings don’t exist you can change them you’re Imagining the

41:30imagined thoughts of other people that also don’t exist I don’t know if you’ve ever read J Shetty I mean he’s think

41:35like a mon came up in the chat someone was representing uh recommending one of his podcast episodes oh oh he’s

41:41brilliant I definitely listen to his his podcast and his book his audio book um

41:48but he talks about I’m not what I think I am I’m not what you think I am I am

41:53what I think you think I am so I’m making decisions about my own judgment

41:59of myself based on me imagining what you’re thinking of me I mean it’s double Madness yet that’s a thought so it

42:06becomes a feeling so it becomes a behavior and it’s such a waste of energy and let me tell you no one else is

42:13really thinking about you most people we have an ego bias we’re worrying about ourselves so that judgment we’re

42:20creating isn’t only a waste of energy but it doesn’t exist I I worked with someone who was really scared that her

42:27boss was worried was angry she was like I’m my boss is really angry with me and I was like why and she said because I I

42:33couldn’t get into the office yesterday the trains were F and I couldn’t get into the office and I sent her a message

42:38she said I’m really really sorry and she wrote back okay said oh God does she usually write

42:45loads of really like long messages she said no she only ever writes one word I

42:50was like so how do you know she’s angry she’s and she was like oh my God you’re so right so she created this entire

42:57scenario This Woman’s got six other direct reports she’s trying to run a meeting she gets a message train to F

43:03like all right that’s it end off where is exactly you tangle yourself up in knots imagining things that don’t exist

43:10and that’s got to stop that’s where you get your power thank you Emma

43:17um let’s take some questions from the community shall we um because there are some fabulous ones um and thank you so

43:24much to everyone who’s contributed the question so far just a prompt um if you see any questions that you want us to

43:29prioritize in asking please do give him a thumbs up as as you have already because uh there’s there’s some really

43:34really lovely ones um so let’s go for the first one um so the top two at the moment come from Anonymous the first one

43:41says um what’s your favorite thing to do uh when you notice you’re rushing and

43:47need to slow down a lot of the time I notice I’m doing it but I find it hard to

43:52stop I mean I would that’s a brilliant question breathe

43:58is a really good one and that sounds really obvious but our breathing influences so much of our mental state

44:05so just even taking time I box breathing so in four hold for four out for four in

44:11five hold for five out for five so breathing is a really good way to calm yourself down and then you know

44:19indulging in things that I love and you know thinking right okay I do a plan on

44:26a Sunday now I don’t like people working on a Sunday and I I I get very cross with people that work at the weekend if

44:33you got kids um because I think work life balance is always a choice on that scale of 1 to 10 um I know sometimes

44:40it’s unavoidable but my 45 minutes on a Sunday is planning the week and making sure that I am slowing

44:47down so working out when I’m going to exercise when I’m going to walk the dog when I’m going to get home early so

44:53making sure was one of the things when I work up in ICU is like how many many bath times have I missed you know and so

44:59making I mean don’t get wrong sometimes bath times are a nightmare but making sure with the kids a certain amount of

45:05time you know thinking about the weekend why if I’m out on Thursday I’m not going to go out Friday you know so it’s just

45:12going you know because you can if you don’t plan ahead and make those choices

45:17you can just find yourself just going a million miles an hour but yeah what

45:23other the things I’ve got a I think have if you haven’t got a dog get a dog because going for a dog walk and also if

45:29you’re driving so one of the things even though I talked about podcast and listening the other day I had an hour in

45:35the car and I was like right who should I who do I need to phone what podcast have I got a list to oh I’ve got that M

45:40Robin I was like you know what I’m just going to drive for an hour with no noise and it was beautiful so it’s just

45:48finding those moments and it’s not always easy for absolute peace and you

45:54know I am constantly having conversations with myself what’s going on how am I feeling so spent that time

45:59doing that and it was great that that’s really helpful can I just ask a followup

46:04question to that because um one of the thoughts that comes off

46:10the back of your answer but also when when the question was asked this is about like scheduling scheduling slowing down time yeah but I guess the danger of

46:19this is slowing down then starts to feel like another task uh so you’re on the calendar and stuff like that and I don’t

46:25really know how I feel about it in either direction um and so you know does it feel like an intuitive

46:32thing to just block out a little bit of time and sort of say I’m gonna keep this me and that’s okay or you know is that

46:38Less in the spirit of of what you speak about I mean I think it’s all different depending on your personality type right

46:44but for me once I’ve put it in myal and and I’m not talking about

46:49diarising so I actually write it in notes I plan the week so because my my

46:55meetings are different so this is I’m okay I’m gonna get up at half six I’m gonna doif Five Tibetans then a blah um

47:04and then I’ll do the school Run come home dog walk walk so then it’s like 10

47:10till six meetings no point me even trying to do something or sometimes I

47:15might slide in a one till two dog walk and then it might be like six to late

47:22homework I also put what I’m going to wear every day and I know that sounds

47:27Bonkers but it removes it just it’s it’s amazing it’s not having a stylist because I forget by Wednesday it’s my

47:33memory I forget by Wednesday what I’ve said and I open my phone and go oh genius I’m wearing my my white jacket

47:41it’s like having a stylist so I work out what I’m going to wear every day so when I going to exercise when what I it

47:46removes a lot of stress for me personally once I’ve written it down

47:53I’ll stick to it I love that um Sarah has put but that’s such a good idea about what to wear um Sarah also

48:00commented earlier oh a different Sarah uh sorry who just said I’ve just looked up The Five Tibetans five poses one of

48:07them includes a uh a wheel uh which I’m definitely going to have to manifest

48:13myself to get into which is great um but I just wanted to go to the next question

48:19I thought that that that comment made me laugh so thank you sir um so the next one comes from Anonymous who says Emma

48:26uh your journey is truly inspiring uh sometimes I feel I’m sometimes I feel I

48:32am in my 20s so if I don’t hustle or work hard now will I be able to do it later how do I let go of this quote

48:38unquote timeline that’s a really good question I think

48:43well it’s all a choice it’s it’s just how much that that hustle is in your head or it’s

48:51real so this is not slow the down is not about working doing less

48:57it’s not about not working hard I work bloody hard I’m still me slow the

49:02down is about the micro decisions we make every day and it’s being really

49:07present and being really mindful about the choices you’re making because out of that 100% of your week of that

49:15hustle 40% of it is probably stuff you don’t need to be doing that it’s just

49:21stuff that you’re creating in your head because of your Foo or your imagin thoughts or your fear and it you don’t

49:27have to be doing it so slow the down actually if you think about it if you’re focused on the things that

49:33actually going to make a difference if you’re unstressed because you’re using manifestation using all your power if

49:39you’re really clear on what it is that you want and believe you can get it you’re going to be more productive if you’re looking after yourself if you’re

49:46sleeping this is about being better this isn’t about doing less and I often I

49:52feel like I I said to you the other day I was in one an office and one of my clients introduced me to one of her peers and went oh this is Emma she’s

49:57running a slow the down program for them and he went well I don’t want them to slow the down I want to speed the up and I

50:03said you’re GNA burn them out and kill them then and then they won’t be productive so this is a i my business

50:10has grown since May 22 my life is at I’m smashing it I’m writing a book for God’s

50:16sake life got you know I’m fitter I’m healthier my kids are thriving I’ve got

50:22a dog I’m squeezing more things in MH it’s not about doing less you keep

50:27focused and you know what also just remember what I said before in your 20s

50:32what is it your your quest is for what are you hustling for because I promise

50:38you in your head you’re like when I get that job I’ll be happy when I get that salary I’ll be happy you buy the house

50:43you get a bigger mortgage It’s never enough and I say this to my kids especially my ones in the 20s the quest

50:50is to be able to wake up in the morning and look yourself in the mirror and say I like you well done everything’s okay

50:58that’s the quest and the only way you’re going to do that is by re being really mindful this is not about doing

51:05less that’s so lovely I kind of just want to let that sit there for a minute because like I feel like

51:10that’s that’s so profound you know like you they should teach this in

51:17school shouldn’t they I mean they should they should um thank you you know I could say

51:25for the next seven minutes just being like quiet that but I probably shouldn’t because that’ be really bad uh hosting

51:31um so let’s take the next question from Emily um so Emily asks uh how do you

51:38stay positive and patient and trust your manifestation is coming that’s a great

51:43question Emily especially for those of us who aren’t patient and I’m not very um I think well the answer is it’s the

51:51knowing it’s not the hoping so when you know you just that’s the whole point of my EST don’t stress you just got to

51:57relax and Trust the timeline um when we found our house

52:03eventually and remember I married to an actor and I just set up a business so no bugger wanted to give us a mortgage and

52:08it was during covid um you know they wanted the contract from Danny’s he was in a Thing Called Halo is a Paramount

52:15plus thing and uh they wanted confirmation it would go to three seasons and it’s like you know even

52:22stepen Spielberg who owned the production company wouldn’t be able to give you that confirmation you know if you’re the CEO of Goldman Sachs you

52:28don’t know whether you’re going to be fired tomorrow anyway sorry I’m getting a sid frustration it took us 10 months

52:35from the time we put the offering to get the mortgage and during that time Dany kept saying let it go babe because they were

52:42desperate to sell and we ended up having to pay rent on this property we ended up having to do jump through hoops but I

52:49was like it’s my house it’s my house I’m already living

52:56there I’m parking in the drive I know what bedrooms the kids are in I’ve decorated it it’s my house there wasn’t

53:04an option so it’s about trust so that took a long time and I don’t think I was

53:10going oh hang on a minute this was on my vision board like I said seven years to get the book done you know there’s a lot

53:16of things still that every year tip into the next year of the vision board and I genuinely believe if it doesn’t happen

53:22it’s because I didn’t believe it would happen because if I believed it would happen create it that’s taking

53:29responsibility so trust keep believing keep doing the work and it will come I

53:35promise you it will come and you have to just believe and you know that’s why

53:40manifestation isn’t I you know I want to be a catwalk model because I don’t believe I can um it’s got to be stuff

53:47within the Realms of your control that you know not hope not wish no is

53:53achievable and it will come and I guess there was an intuitive followup to that

54:00which is about shortterm sort of setback and and and stuff like that cuz CU humbly in that 10 moments there were

54:05moments where well let me not presume let me ask were the moments in that 10-month period

54:11where you were like I know this is going to happen but also there’s the 1% you know that sort

54:18of sits at the back of the mind or you know is this 100% Allin thing you know I don’t remember going well this isn’t

54:24going to happen I just remember think this an out we got to the point just before Christmas and we ended up moving in in April just before Christmas we

54:32thought we’d got it we went to CPS private bank and we they’ said yes they’d even done a survey once they go

54:37to survey it’s done and they pulled it at the last minute right and we were

54:42supposed to get the keys on the Friday and we had a call on the Wednesday saying oh sorry we changed our mind I

54:48don’t think I thought this isn’t going to happen I think at that point I was like wow this is really hard yeah um

54:53cause and effect is a really good thing I just want to quickly talk about I know we haven’t got that much time sorry guys

54:59if you’re in effect you’re like this isn’t fair why is this happening this is if you’re in cause there’s three

55:04questions you ask yourself how did I create this somehow because you always do what can I learn from this and what

55:12options are available to me now and if you have that lens of those three questions you’ll stay in your power nice

55:19thank you thank you very much em um let’s let’s take one question this was

55:24something you referenced earlier on could be a whole webinar so I don’t suspect we’ll solve it in three minutes

55:30but uh maybe we could give a stab so the question says uh what do you what do you

55:36do when it’s not clear where you want to go or who you want to be I’m so overwhelmed with the noise of life that

55:42I’m finding it hard to make decisions and it be clear in my head as to where I’m heading that’s such a difficult one

55:49and I totally empathize I often say to people take away the specifics of things so if

55:56you’re going to do that manifestation go into the future pick a day and just talk about how things feel so remove that I’m

56:03am working for you know blah blah and I’m doing you know I’m waking up in the morning and I’m doing this this

56:09afternoon I have some lovely meetings with some people I’m working with and remove all this this detail around it

56:16and just you know generally actually in manifestations I’m all about how it looks how it feels what’s going on and

56:23if you want a really great exercise if I said to you this is the perfect

56:29scenario what’s the one thing you know would be on it and it might be I’m I’m in a great culture I’m working with

56:36people who I value I’m learning I’m being respected all that stuff you’re

56:42not making decisions about your particular career Journey you’re just putting the Aesthetics around how your

56:48life wants to be and then That’s the Law of Attraction when you see those things

56:53you’ll know it’s right for you so there are more than one ways to to paint that picture does that make sense yeah it

57:00does it you know I think it’s it’s hard isn’t it it’s so hard for not easy no

57:07not easy although you did say hard earlier

57:14so um it’s it’s it’s not easy but um when you uh when you’re going through

57:21this process everyone’s telling you to do a same thing you know so to remove the specific sounds really really helpful yeah

57:26um Emma that’s that’s that’s our time uh so no we’ve got so many questions what

57:32do we do can you send me them or something I of course I can of course I can um I I’ll do that and I’ll capture

57:39them and you can answer them however you like either through TMM or LinkedIn or

57:45whatever it may be um in fact that’s a prompt for me to put your LinkedIn up on my screen uh so if you’d

57:52like to connect with Emma then please do then she’s just there um but yeah um we

57:59got Helen saying thank you so much so much resonated we with me uh it’s not easy with a winky face so there we go

58:05not easy uh thank you Emma for being a Legend um thank you for sharing and your

58:13honesty and uh hopefully you can uh can see uh the well-deserved sort of Praise

58:18coming through in the chat feature thank you guys thank you to everyone in theity trly honor to be here thank you and um
